Internet marketing is probably one of the areas of online business more vastly invaded by money making products of all kinds, sizes and prices.

I have tried a lot of them and for the most part, I have found some serious knowledge and learning experiences which have provided me with the main asset I use to run my internet marketing business: know-how.

Each course, club or community I have purchased or joined offers some distinctive advantages over the other, but in the end, at the very heart of the principles they teach, everything is pretty much the same, so as long as you get your hands on real education and avoid following some wealthy wise guy, you will make a killing at internet marketing.

It will take some time and effort on your part, but that will be basically all you will be risking in exchange for the real possibility of making a lot of money online.

Now, what are the basic things you should know in order to start making real money with internet marketing?

The first thing I recommend you to do (in case you have not done it yet) is sign up for affiliate networks such as Commission Junction, Millnic Media and Linkshare (there are more, but this is a good starting point).

Then go ahead and to do some research on the products offered by the various publishers (companies offering products) and identify the ones that are hot and profitable for other members of the network.

Then you can create a website to promote that companies’ offers (if you feel you can say something relevant about the product), or you could simply get a domain and redirect traffic directly to the publishers’ website.

How do you get the traffic?

You can use paid traffic (PPC) or you can use free traffic techniques like articles, social bookmarking, social networking and more.

As you learn how to read the statistics for the different products, you will know which ones perform better (for instance, some affiliate networks tell you how many dollars per every 100 clicks -EPC- are other members making with a given product); that way you will know where to focus your efforts.

Usually the best performing products and offers will be those where the prospect does not have to pay anything (such as free trials, email submits, credit applications etc.), because as you might guess, there is a lot less resistance if you do not have to pull your wallet.

There are some additional details to be considered in order to build this simple internet marketing strategy, which are anything but complicated yet they cannot be ignored.

The new program, Wolfram Alpha, showcased at Harvard University in the United States last week, takes the first approach in the direction that many consider to be the Internet’s Holy Grail – a massive accumulation of data that understands and responds to regular language in the same way a human does.

Even though the program is still new, it has already produced massive interest and excitement with technology pundits and internet aficionados.

Computer professionals predict that the new search engine will an extraordinary jump in the advancement of the internet. Nova Spivack, an internet and computer expert, said that Wolfram Alpha could become just as important as Google. “It is really impressive and significant,” he wrote. “In fact it may be as important for the web (and the world) as Google, but for a different purpose.”

Tom Simpson, of the blog www.convergenceofeverything.com, said: “What are the wider implications exactly? A new paradigm for using computers and the web? Probably. Emerging artificial intelligence and a step towards a self-organizing internet? Possibly… I think this could be big.”

Wolfram Alpha can not only provide a direct answer to queries such as “how high is Mount Everest?”, but it will also produce a organized page of related information – all properly sourced – such as geographical location and nearby towns, and other mountains, complete with charts and graphs.

The real ingenuity, however, is in its ability to work things out “on the fly”, according to its British inventor, Dr Stephen Wolfram. If you ask it to compare the height of Mount Everest to the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, it will tell you. Or ask what the weather was like in London on the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated, it will cross-check and provide the answer. Ask it about D sharp major, it will play the scale. Type in “10 flips for four heads” and it will guess that you want to know the probability of coin-tossing. If you want to know when the next solar eclipse over Chicago is, or the precise current location of the International Space Station, it can work it out.

Dr. Wolfram, an award-winning physicist who is equations.

“I’ve wanted to make the knowledge we’ve accumulated in our civilization computable,” he said last week. “I was not sure it was possible. I’m a little surprised it worked out so well.”

Dr. Wolfram, 49, who was educated at Eton and had completed his PhD in particle physics by the time he was 20, added that the launch of Wolfram Alpha later this month would be just the beginning of the project.

“It will understand what you are talking about,” he said. “We are just at the beginning. I think we’ve got a reasonable start on 90 per cent of the shelves in a typical reference library.”

The engine, which will be free to use, works by drawing on the knowledge of the internet, as well as private databases. Dr. Wolfram said he expected that about 1,000 employees would be needed to keep its databases updated with the most recent discoveries and information.

Wolfram Alpha has been created with professionals and academics in mind, so its grasp of popular culture is, at the moment, comparatively poor. The term “50 Cent” caused “absolute horror” in tests, for example, because it confused a discussion on currency with the American rap artist. For this reason alone it is unlikely to provide an immediate threat to Google, which is working on a similar type of search engine, a version of which it launched last week.

“We have significant amount of popular culture information,” Dr Wolfram said. “In some cases popular culture information is much more easily computable, so we can figure out who’s related to who and how tall people are. I fully expect we will have lots of popular culture information. These are linguistic horrors because if you put in books and music a lot of the names collide with other concepts.”

He added that to assist with that Wolfram Alpha would be using Wikipedia’s popularity index to decide what users were likely to be interested in.

With Google now one of the world’s top brands, worth $100bn, Wolfram Alpha has the ability to become one of the biggest names on the planet.

Dr. Wolfram, however, did not rule out working with Google in the future, as well as Wikipedia. “We’re working to partner with all possible organisations that make sense,” he said. “Search, narrative, news are complementary to what we have. Hopefully there will be some great synergies.”

The idea of being able to work from home and kiss your job goodbye is becoming more popular to a lot of people. Now it seems that everyone on the internet is trying to sell some kind of home business, internet marketing or MLM type program. Why are these the type of work from home programs that have become so popular, and do they really work?

I don’t think these type of programs have become so popular because people actually like doing these kind of programs or are successful with them. I think when it comes to working at home these are just the types of business opportunities that are advertised so these are the ones we always hear about. The reason we hear about them so much is because that’s how most of these programs work is by trying to sell the opportunity to others.

There are other ways to work at home and make money that don’t involve recruiting other people but most people have no reason to advertise those business opportunities so we don’t hear about them much. Even most internet marketing programs being advertised will involve you selling the same opportunity that you just bought.

Do people really make money with these kind of opportunities? A few do but most don’t. Despite what the people selling these programs will tell you, these kind of businesses are very difficult for most people. Professional marketers and professional sales people who are specially trained for those types of businesses do make a lot of money with these programs. But most of them have invested years of failing before they ever get there. So when they try to tell you that these programs are going to be easy money, they are just saying that because they are trying to get easy money for themselves, your money.

It is possible to succeed in these types of businesses but you will have to develop the right skills. Just be prepared for what might be a long road ahead of you. You will need to become good at sales and marketing. You may even have to change your own habits and your personality.

Going through that process can actually be a good thing. But in reality most people are not going to do it. That’s why these types of businesses have such a high failure rate of over 95%.

If you are actually interested in home business, internet marketing or MLM type of businesses and want to learn to be good at them and are willing to go through the process, then there can be opportunity for you in them. If you are not interested in doing these kind of programs and just want to make money there are much easier ways to make money than by trying to sell opportunities to others.
